How it works

How you’ll learn to fly a paramotor

Paramotor lessons for complete beginners. No flying experience needed – we start on the ground and build up step by step.

1

Try an Introductory Flight

Not sure yet? A $150, 25-minute Introductory Flight with an experienced instructor by your side lets you feel what powered paragliding is like before you commit.

2

Classroom & simulators

Airspace rules, weather, safety and how the equipment works – then the motor simulator for throttle control, weight-shift and landing posture, and the glider simulator for steering and brake input.

3

Ground handling

Plenty of time with a real wing on the ground, then forward and reverse launches, power walking and power taxiing.

4

Your first flights

When you and your instructor are ready, you fly – with your instructor guiding you by radio, building up to confident launches, smooth throttle control and safe landings.

Safety first

Emphasis is placed on safety from the beginning, along with understanding the rules, regulations & complexities of the sport.

Tailored to you

Our training is tailored to each individual. Classes are small and safety focused.

USPPA certified instructors

As a USPPA-certified school we take every precaution so students are safe and confident in their paramotor skills.

FAQ

Paramotor training questions

Do I need a pilot’s license to fly a paramotor?

No. In the US, single-seat paramotors are flown under the FAA’s Part 103 ultralight rules, which do not require a pilot’s license. That is exactly why proper training matters – we strongly recommend learning with a USPPA-certified school before you fly on your own.

Do I need any flying experience?

None at all. Our training starts from the ground up and is tailored to you, whatever your background.

Foot launch or trike launch – which is right for me?

Foot launch is the classic way: the paramotor on your back, taking off on foot. Trike launch takes off from a wheeled trike, which is easier on the legs. Not sure? An Introductory Flight is a great way to try it and talk it through with us.

How long does paramotor training take?

Our week-long course runs 8–9 days (Saturday to the following Sunday), or you can spread the same training across 3–4 weekends. Weather plays a part and everyone learns at their own pace – we never rush anyone into the air. See our training calendar for upcoming dates.

How much does paramotor training cost?

Our full paramotor training course is $3,500, and a 25-minute Introductory Flight is $150. Call 336-493-2244 to ask what is included or fill in the Get Started form and we will be in touch within 24 hours.

Do I need to buy my own paramotor first?

No – Carolina PPG provides all flight equipment during training, including helmets, wings and motors. Talk to us before you buy anything: as a Parajet dealer, we can help you choose the right paramotor, wing and gear for your weight, fitness and goals.

Where does training take place?

At our home base at Richmond County Airport in Rockingham, North Carolina.

Is paramotoring safe?

Like any form of aviation it carries risk, which is why safety is at the heart of our training from day one: rules and regulations, weather, pre- and post-flight inspections, and how to recognise and avoid dangers. Small classes mean you get proper attention.
